Description:
The following photograph depicts Andrew Johnson, the 17th president of the United States, seated on a high back chair with a curtain draped behind him. He is wearing a black, three piece suit with a white undershirt. His hair is brushed to the right side of his head and back. The photograph may have been taken by Mathew Brady, which is inferred by a comparison with another photograph found digitized on Invaluable and Swann auction houses’ website. The photographer's date has been estimated by comparison with the same item.
Beneath the photograph, Johnson has signed his name.

Presented to me by President Andrew Johnson in his study in the White House on 6th April 1868, where I was calling with Hon[orable] Geo[rge] Woodward the member of Congress & his son Frank,
