Description:

The following item is an autograph from Princess Charlotte, Countess of Hanau-Lichtenberg (Charlotte Christine Magdalene Johanna of Hanau-Lichtenberg, 1700-1726). This document contains the letters “j 6 j 7” above the signature. Charlotte was the wife of Landgrave Louis VIII of Hesse-Darmstadt. The countess had three children and when she died and her eldest son Louis IX became heir-apparent of the County of Hanau, part of the Holy Roman Empire, currently Hanau, Germany. The county of Hesse-Kassel was awarded some land in the county of Hanau, which eventually led to armed conflict and was resolved via lengthy court proceedings.
