Description:
The following map, dated roughly during the twentieth century, depicts a pencil drawn map on tracing paper. The land has been estimated as possibly lying in Luzerne county. This is due to the lands depicted on the map, which appear to be owned by the Glen Alden Coal company, and are annotated as such in one such corner. In addition to the Glen Alden coal company and these other markers, the words,
The date for the item has been estimated from the active dates of the Glen Alden Coal Company, a major coal producer in Northeastern Pennsylvania during the twentieth century. At its height in the valley, the company created numerous jobs, employing over 34,000 people and operating over 20 collieries in the region. The company was most well known for its marketing approaches, dying its anthracite and presenting “Blue Coal.” There is more historical information to be found in the Industrial Archives & Library.
The possible location for the item has also been estimated by the Glen Alden Coal Company, whose headquarters were located in Ashley, PA, Luzerne county, but might also be located in one of their land purchases in Lackawanna county.
