Title:
Part of the Borough of Pittston
Description:
The following item depicts a map of part of the borough of Pittston. The map is a tricolor map sectioned in three wards, with wards 1 and 2 being yellow and ward 2 being red. There are two small tracts colored green in ward 1. Each ward is sectioned into many tracts owned and labeled by individual parties. It also includes the natural landscape markers, such as the Susquehanna and Lackawanna Rivers, the northern branches, and canals, as well as nearby man-made roads, and is bordered by the remainder of Pittstone township. A legend in the bottom right corner mentions that the map is scaled 20 rods to an inch.
The map is thought to be made by Daniel Glover Beers, included in his work, Atlas of Luzerne Co. Pennsylvania. From Actual Surveys By and Under the direction of D. G. Beers. Published by A. Pomeroy & Co., New York, 1873. Though this source at Ancestor Tracks has a number of the maps included in this publication, the borough of Pittston does not appear. However, the color gradation and font type matches the other maps in this work, including his numerous surveys of the boroughs.
