Language of Materials

From the Collection: English

Type of Material:

Map

General Condition:

Fair. Paper is slightly discolored from age- a sort of brown tinge to the paper. This page was also torn out of or off of a larger item, so the bottom edge is uneven and jagged more on the bottom right. The bottom right corner has a small tear into the edge of the map.

Measurements:

4¼ in. x 7 in.

Description:

A printed publication of a map from the Matthews-Northrup Company showing the state of Washington and some of its surrounding areas in 1898. The first side shows Washington, including both towns and geographical landmarks. It is said to contain “all railroads, cities, towns, and principal villages” as well as Mountain ranges and the individual peaks, rivers, lakes, state boundaries, and even reservations. The back side shows a section of a map of Virginia and West Virginia with the same descriptors, only this one is incomplete, presumably from the sheet being torn from a larger map or book.

Location:

Washington; Virginia; West Virginia
