General Condition:

Good. It’s a thin printed sheet attached securely to a thicker piece of cardstock for support. There are no creases, but the corners have some wear and tear of small bends and scuffs. The thinner sheet has some small holes along the upper left edge and some tears along the other, but none are at risk of opening due to the cardstock. Other than that, there are just some smudges and dirtied edges.

Title:

Plan of the High Court of Parliament Erected in Westminster-Hall for the Trial of Warren Hastings

Description:

A printed map/layout of the High Court of British Parliament for the corruption trial of Warren Hastings, 1732-1818, the former Governor-General of Bengal to be held on February 13 1788. It details the setup of the room and seatings for the trial, which are marked with letters to match with a key on the bottom to describe their usage/occupants for the event, even including a small figure of the accused in his assigned position. Cornelius Tiebout Engravings’ website has a brief historical paragraph on the engraving: “Possibly the earliest known engraving by Cornelius Tiebout appeared as a foldout with the June 1788 issue of The American Magazine. The Plan, after an illustration now in the British Museum, shows the layout in Westminster Hall in which the famous impeachment trial of Warren Hastings was held. Two images appear below: Tiebout's engraving and an artist's rendering of the Hall filled with people attending the trial. This picture is found in Hutchinson's Story of the Nations, London, 1933-34, p. 196. For details about Warren Hastings and the trial, see The Trial.”
