Description:

The following items, dated July 21, 1952, depict a series of documents addressed to Benjamin Rhys from Dorothy Blanchard Champan Stets. The first document is a typescript letter from Stets asking Rhys at the Luzerne County Assessors offices to assess 10 acres reserved from a 100 acres parcel. These lands have been certified as lot 3 and a part of lot 2, both lying in Plains township. Stets states that the reservation was made by her aunt, Frances Blanchard Saylor, and recorded in a deed book at the Luzerne County Court House by the number 93, found in pages 439, 444, and 448. The second item is a USPS return receipt by Stets for her letter to Rhys. It includes the date, a stamp of the office, and a return address. It was marked delivered on July 22, 1952 and signed by Rhys upon receipt. The next item is a typescript page of research in various deed books. The books range from 55 to 633, and contain the pages that the desired information can be found on. At the bottom of the page, someone has written that another party mentioned other persons names on the lots 2 and 3 wanted by Stets, including Mr. Lutz’s testimony that the lands were bought by Jermyn Green, a map with the Pennsylvania Coal Company above Saylor’s lots, and a final note to have a survey made with the meets and bounds recorded in the Mercur deeds, 15.123a Item 67a: Phorostat Copies of a Deed from Sterling and Frannie E. Saylor and Stephen and Mary S. Abbott to M[ahlon] C. Mercur, 1864 January 11 and 15.135 Item 79: Typed Copies of a Land Deed from Mahlon C. Mercur to Charles F. Welles, 1865 November 15. The final item is a white receipt paper with various numbers typed on it.
