General Condition:

Fair. The sheet has one faint crease in the center, and two more (if put in thirds) are even more faint. About 4 small tears mark the right edge of the sheet, but there is only one small one on the left side where the center crease is. The corners are slightly bent over, and the edges of the sheet are a bit yellowed and dirtied. The only other marks are the two larger tears in the upper left corner for staples and the penciled annotations marking the front of the page - mostly along the botto edge.

Description:

The following item depicts a typescript copy of a land deed from Sarah Blanchard, 1804-1892, to the Pennsylvania Coal Company. In the deed, Blanchard is selling a plot of land situated in Jenkins township, Pennsylvania, for $2,200.94 on May 25 1860. The land in question is described with the field notes of a survey, plotting its perimeters by way of measurements and containing an unknown amount of land on which the company has the right to extract coal and other minerals. According to the boundary lines annotated in the manuscript, the lands lie near the North Branch Canal and the Susquehanna River. The document is missing at least one page, as the text cuts off in the midst of things and has no confirmation of sale/transfers or closing seals. Handwritten annotations mark the front of the page, some being notes and others are conversions from rods and perches into standard measures. Other notes include a series of numbers, possibly more directional coordinates.
