Description:

The following item dated September 10, 1896, depicts a typescript copy of a land deed by Jeremiah F. Blanchard and Augusta, his wife, to John E. Tennant. In the deed, Blanchard is selling Tennant land in Jenkins township for the sum of $800.00. Parts of these lands were willed to Blanchard by the late Sarah Blanchard, and the deed contains numerous field notes and directional coordinates for the boundaries of the tract in question. The deed does mention that certain parts of the land have been excepted in this sale, as they were previously deeded out to the Pennsylvania and New York Canal and Railroad Company, see items, 15.106a-d, through which they still maintain the rights to minerals and coal found on the lands. The final section of the deed is the transference of rights and profits to the land from Blanchard and his heirs or assigns to those of Tennant and himself, with protections against any other person claiming to own the lands in sale. The deed is witnessed by D. S. Whitaker and Sam Kutz, and is recorded on September 28, 1896.
