Description:
These documents cover two separate sales. The first, using the three sheet sale, is a typescript copy of a land deed from one group to John Blanchard, 1801-1853, for $2750.00 for a plot of land on November 17 1845. The group of sellers contain Jacob (1810-1898) and Mary Shiffer (1815-1897), Archibald (1796-1867) and Margaret Knight (1796-1881), and Elizabeth Landon (1793-1879). The lands in question, including lots 7 (likely correct but blurred, seems & and 7 keys were both struck in the same spot.) and 6, are marked by a small survey-like description of its perimeters. It confirms the sale and transfers all rights from the group to Blanchard and his descendants as well as naming the witnesses to the sale, G. Burrows and W. I. Woodward. The name for Jacob and Mary Shiffer may be incorrect - found as “Shaffer” online. May be correct, but not 100%. A note on the back of the third page mentions a Samuel shiffer, but its yet to be determined if he holds any relation to Jacob and Mary. The Blanchard family is related to the Knight and Landon families through marriage - Elizabeth and Margaret are John’s elder sisters. // The second is a typescript copy of a land sale from Jeremiah Blanchard to Jeremiah Blanchard Jr. for £125 for a plot of land on January 1 1792. The land in question, lot 6 of Pittston, is marked by a description of its relations to other lots in the area, being near to Jonathan Stark, Arthur Irwin, and containing 158 acres. It confirms the sale and transfers all rights from Blanchard Sr. to Blanchard Jun. and his descendants, as well as listing witnesses, Enos Brown and John Phillips, at the end. There are three Jeremiahs in the Blanchard family, but only one was alive by 1792, presumably the sr. of the family, father of one Jeremiah and grandfather of another. The ages of this don’t lay well then, as both of the latter were born after 1792 by at least 6 years.
