Description:
The following items depict a photostat of a land deed, dated January 11, 1864, for a property in Pittston. The deed contains a survey of the land, and the release of ownership from the sale. This deed is annotated as January 1864 in pencil by another hand, shows a deed between Sterling and Fanny E. Saylor, Sterling Saylor, heir of Samuel Saylor, Mary (Saylor) Abbott, daughter and heir of Samuel Saylor and Mahlon C. Mercur. The deed contains several tracts of land in Pittston township, amounting to 100 acres and 73 perches. The land was bought by Mercur for the sum of $11, 336.33 and ⅓ cents, and contains numerous land survey field notes to again designate the boundaries of the contract and sale. There is an additional page that explains the counsel of Fannie E. Saylor and Mary S. (Saylor) Abbott in selling the land. The contract states that the women were made fully aware of the sale and what it entails, and agreed that their signatures were sworn in full confidence, without compulsion of their husbands. The record was taken January 20, 1864.
