Description:
The following items depict a typescript of a land deed for a property in Pittston. The deed contains a survey of the land, and the release of ownership from the sale. This contract is between Samuel Saylor to Volney Lee Maxwell, allowing a rail road track to be laid in the corner of his land in Pittston township, witnessed on December 14, 1849. The deed allows the laying of a single or double track on the corner of this tract of land held by Saylor, allowable upto to 20 feet wide and extending to the main road coming from Brick Yard. The rights to that land are sold for $100.00 and the deed stipulates that the maintenance and security of the line is the condition of the Maxwell and his heirs or assigns for the upkeep. The final lines, on the part of Maxwell, attest to the stipulation that he must create fences along the tracks created to protect from any creatures being killed by cars on the tracks. Additionally, if any losses come to Saylor because of the cars, Maxwell is responsible for paying them out.
