Description:

The following item is a typescript copy of a land deed, dated August 18, 1851, from Benjamin Cooper to George Cooper. In the deed, Benjamin is selling a tract of land in Pittston, named lot number 5, sold for $350.00 for a plot of land in Pittston on August 18, 1851. The boundaries of the tract are described in detail with directional coordinates from a survey conducted on the premises. The deed names the neighboring tracts of land, including John Blanchard, William Abbott, and Cornelius Cortright, 1764-1848). The final sections of the deed confirms the sale and transfers all rights and profits from Benjamin Cooper to George Cooper, his descendants and is witnessed by H. W. Nicholson, S. Cooper, C. T. Barnum. It was recorded on August 18, 1851.

This indenture made and concluded the Fourth day of August. One Thousand Height Hundred and Fifty, by and between Benjamin Cooper of Luzerne County, late “A citizen of the world,” of the first part and George Cooper of Pittston in said County of the second part; witnesseth that for --X---- and in the consideration of the sum of Three Hundred and Fifty Dollars to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged: The said Benjamin Cooper doth hereby release, assign, and set over unto George Cooper, his heirs and assigns forever, all the right, title and interest in and unto Lot No. 3 in the river tier and first division of lots in Pittston Township: Bounded Northeasterly by the lands of John Blanchard: Southerly by the lands of the Pennsylvania Coal Company: ------- Southeasterly, by the lands of William Abbott and lands of the late Cornielius Cortright: And Northerly by the Susquehanna River. Containing about One Hundred Acres of land. To have and to hold the same unto him the said George Cooper and his heirs and assigns forever against the said Benjamin Cooper and his legal representatives, and all persons claiming the same under him them or any of them: Witness the hand and seal of said Benjamin Cooper the day and year first above written.
