Description:
This is a mix of typescript and handwritten copies of one sale in 4 separate documents from William D. Lewis, Jr. and John M. Odenheimer to Theodore Strong, 1820-1907. They were paid $3000.00 for two plots of land in Pittston and Plains on February 8 1856. In the first sheet (the one that has two exact copies), each of the two lots have their own descriptions and a small survey-like description of its perimeters and relations to other lots in the area. The first lot is 6 acres and 106 perches, and the second contains 3 acres and 54 perches. It is also noted that the second lot is inside a larger lot having been previously bought by Lewis and Odenheimer from Samuel Saylor, 1799-1859, and wife, presumably Julia Ann Saylor, 1821-1860. The only section of the land excepted from the sale to Strong is the stone or fossil coal and iron, and they reserve the right to take that if found. The second typed sheet focuses more on confirming the sale and transfers all rights from Odenheimer and Lewis to Strong and his descendants, once again noting the exceptions for mineral resources. This sheet also labels a second indenture from Theodore Strong and his wife to J. C. Williams for a plot of land on August 1 1856. The land in question, possibly the home of the late (died 1859) Samuel Saylor, is marked by a small survey-like description of its perimeters It confirms the sale and once again notes the exception of stone/fossil coal and iron ore on the lands for Strong and his descendants and the rights they have in the matters of removing these resources from the land. Finally, the handwritten note on notebook paper goes back to that previous sheet in both the deals with Odenheimer and Lewis to Strong, and Strong to Williams. The former has the date, deed book location, and people involved, and the latter has the date, people involved, and a note of 1 acre surface, presumably what was sold.
