Description:

These are two identical typescript copies of a land deed from William D. Lewis, his wife, John M. Odenheimer and his wife, to Samuel Saylor, 1799-1859, for $30,136.87½ for a plot of land on December 29 1857. The land in question is part lots 3 and 2 in Pittston, are marked by a small survey-like description of its perimeters and contain 100 acres and 73 perches. The document reserves ½ acre of the land to Samuel Billings, then also gives a strip of land to Volney I. Maxwell for a railroad and finally the right of way for the land is sold to the Wilkes-Barre and Providence Plank Road Co. There is also a final exception of 10 acres that had been sold to Theodore Strong prior to this deal. It confirms the sale and transfers all rights from Lewis and Odenheimer to Saylor and his wife Julia Ann, 1821-1860. The annotations underline certain words of the document, and reiterates the location of the original source.
