Description:
The following item dated May 27, 1862, depicts a typewritten copy of a land deed from Charles Issac Abel Chapman, 1826-1916, and Martha Chapman, 1831-1892, to the Lackawanna & Bloomsburg Rail Road Company. In the deed, the company is paying $100.00 for a plot of land in Pittston, and the contract signed on May 27 1862. The document legally signs the sale of land, transferring it to the railroad company. The boundaries are outlined in a detailed description from the field notes during the survey of the land, designating its perimeters and relations to other lots in the area, including those of Michael Reap, 1820-1878, Peter Wagner, and the railroad’s previous perimeters to this plot before their ownership. The document closes with a final confirmation that all rights to the land are now assigned to the new owners, as confirmed by witnesses Mary Philbin and Fanny Blanchard.
