Description:

The following are typescript copies of a land deed from Theodore Strong, 1820-1907, and his wife, Mary Strong, 1832-1869, to J. C. Williams. The two loose sheets (without staple marks) are copies of the other, presenting an indenture from Strong and wife to J. C. Williams, for $400.00 for a plot of land on August 1 1856. The land in question is one acre in Plains Township and is marked by a small survey-like description of its perimeters and relations to other lots in the area, including those of Samuel Saylor (1799-1859) to W. D. Lewis and J. M. Odenheimer. It confirms the sale and transfers all rights from Strong and his heirs while still reserving the stone, fossil coal, and iron for them to mine. It labels the deed’s location in a deed book. One sheet has an annotation reading, “Coal reserved to Theo Strong in this deed.”
