Description:

Typewritten copies of a summary about the transfer of land from several parties, in Pittston, Jenkins, and elsewhere, over several years. Overall, the three seem to be different variations on the history in sales of one tract of land from 1801 to 1901. Each page’s version gives different amounts of information, from simple lists to paragraphs. The land changed hands from Peter Saylor, 1770-1809, and Margaret Saylor, 1771-1849, to their son, Samuel Saylor, 1799-1859. He then sold to Lewis and Odenheimer, who sold to Theodore Strong, 1820-1907, who sold to I.C. Williams. S. Saylor bought back everything from Odenheimer and Lewis except the land which had been sold to Strong, but soon thereafter bought it from Williams. Mercur is the next in the chain, having bought everything but 10 acres from Saylor’s family. Mercur would sell to Welles, and finally the land changed hands to Pittston Elmira Coal, Northern Coal & Iron, and eventually Central Vall[e]y Railway. The two individual sheets are mostly lists of land sales. The first labels the deed book they are inside, its location within said book, and occasionally some dates, locations, and people. The second has a bit more explanation for each, giving dates, the seller and buyer, the size of the land and occasionally location, and the prices. The last 2 pages are connected as one document, but are just a copy of the second sheet’s information.
