Description:

This is a typescript letter from Helen Basgier, 1904-1993, to the Tax Claim Bureau at the Luzerne County Commissioners’ Office. In the letter, Basgier is enclosing the payment of $17.55 for taxes due on her property, land listed as lots 2 and 3 of Pittston Township. The item is dated September 2, 1955. Below this is another smaller note mentioning that the dues are assessed to Jermyn-Green Coal Company, a trustee in Plains Township. As trustee, they would have potentially been responsible for paying the dues or managing the taxes on the trust, which would have been determined by the local government based on the assets valuation. It is unknown if this is a copy made for Basgier’s records or the original.
