Scope and Contents

This collection documents the history of buildings on the Wilkes campus, the biographies of donors and namesakes of buildings, and the activities of the Public Relations and Marketing Departments in coordinating building-based events, including groundbreakings, dedications, and anniversaries. Materials are photographic and textual, including programs, publications, correspondence, press releases, news clippings, and related printed matter.

The Sordoni Art Gallery folders contain many photographs of works of art that cannot be displayed or distributed publicly without the written permission of the original artist.

Biographical or Historical Information

From 1993 to 2006, Mark Davis, Director of Public Relations, and other Marketing staff collected photographs, newspaper clippings, and other information documenting the history of Wilkes buildings and their donors and name-sakes. After 2002, but before the files were arranged in 2015, they were combined with files documenting the Public Relations department's work organizing public events at buildings, including dedications and groundbreaking ceremonies.

Custodial History

The Building file was in the Harold Cox Archives room on the third floor of Farley Library in December 2012 when arrangement and description of the university archives collections began. The initial acquistion date is unknown.

The materials were acquired from the Marketing and Public Relations department. The method of acquisition is unknown - they were located in the University Archives in December 2012 when arrangement and description of the collection began.

Appraisal Information

Most non-duplicate extant documents were retained, due to their detailed descriptions of Wilkes buildings. Some internal memos pertaining to the organization of events were excluded.
