Description:

The following letter dated April 6, 1777, is written by Samuel H[olden] Parsons to Zebulon Butler, a Colonel during the American Revolutionary war and political figure from Connecticut. In the letter, Parsons is writing to Butler concerning the necessary military movements of his company. Parsons asks that Butler bring the company as far as Morristown as quickly as the men can make it. He states there that the Commander in Chief will have orders for them, unless Butler receives orders sooner than that, at which time he is to follow them. He concludes by stating that he hopes they will arrive in time to be of aide to their general. It is not clear if the general he is mentioning at the end is a self inclusion or an additional man, as he signs the back of the document, “General Parsons.”
