Description:

This letter, dated August 6, 1780, is written by William Stuart to Zebulon Butler, a lieutenant colonel during the American Revolutionary War. In the letter, Stewart writes to Butler to inform him of the progress of a flour shipment. Stewart explains that he has gotten orders from the Commissaries of Lancaster and Cumberland region to approve a shipment of flour to Wyoming, but he could not secure a loan or any financial support. He also mentions that they will need more men to secure the shipment all the way to the Wyoming post because he does not believe the men in charge of boating it up the river will want to make the whole journey, which would be from the 9th to the 10th. Stewart asks that Butler find some of these men to send his way for the final part of the journey. This item is a reply to a letter that Butler recently wrote Stewart, found in 10.19. Item 19: Letter from Zebulon Butler to [William] Stewart, 1780 August 1.
