Fair. Slight vinegar smell. The paper is browning, the edges are lightly tattered, there are some stains, as well as some folds in the paper.

Description:
This letter, dated October 26, 1780, is written by John Henry Antes to Zebulon Butler, a lieutenant colonel during the American Revolutionary war. In the letter, Antes is writing to tell Butler that he has been ordered to halt all articles and provisions being sent up to the Wyoming post by the order of the Commissaries of Pennsylvania. He states that they are awaiting further orders to be able to send supplies on and sends his regrets for the orders. He concludes by asking Butler to excuse his refusal to comply with Butler’s previous request.

I Received yours from the 23 Inst[ant] But am Sory (sic) [sorry] to
aqccord (sic) [accord?] you that I Receved (sic) [received] orders by a Letter to Col[one]l
Hunter, not to furnish any artickle (sic) [article] to at or the post
at Wyoming, as Colo[nel] Hunter has orders to Stop every
artickle (sic) [article] furnished by the Comm’r [Commissary] of this state until
further orders I therefore bege (sic) [beg] to be Excuset (sic) [excused] of not
Complying in your Request and Remane (sic) [remain] sir
