Poor. Slight Vinegar smell. The paper is separated into two halves, as it has torn at a fold. The paper itself is in very poor condition, with the edges being extremely tattered, the paper browning, there being several minor tears and stains, as well as general ink fading. A bottom section of the letter seems to missing from the letter.

Description:
This letter, dated January 22, 1781, is written by Zebulon Butler, a lieutenant colonel during the American Revolutionary War to the Board of War members. In the letter, Butler acknowledges that a recent resolution of congress has allowed for relief and provisions to come to the camp post in Wyoming after an extended bar. However, he continues on to write that they cannot march without proper clothing and money. Butler explains that his excellency, George Washington, has recently written a request for Butler to march his troops to meet with his, but without the necessary supplies he cannot move them. He also mentions that Lieutenants John Jenkins and Simon Spalding are awaiting word from the board to be furnished with supplies as well. Butler concludes by mentioning there has been no word since January on drafted accounts of his and Schotts as well, noted in item 10.28, and he wishes to hear word on it.

Agreabel (sic) [agreeable] to A Resolve of Congress A Relief
is com (sic) [come] to this post but the Troops at this
Post can not march without being furnished
with money clothing. &c [etcetera] or I have his
Excellincys (sic) [Excellency’s] orders to march them Immediately.
I would wish to have them furnished with those
Articls (sic) [articles] as soon as possabel (sic) [possible] as it will be
Expensive. Virtually Both Parties head
Capt Seling (sic) [Selin] from the free Comand (sic) [command]
and Lt Jinkings (sic) [John Jenkins] or Spaulding waits on the
Bord (sic) [board] for A settelment (sic) I wish it could be
done that the[s]e (sic) Troops mite (sic) [might] march without
Grumbling. Your last Rispecting (sic) [respecting] Capt[ain] Schotts
Corps was that the Offices would be
Suprenemy(?) the first of Jan[uar]y but as
those gentelmen (sic) [gentlemen] have Rec’d [received] no order
Dismission or pay thay (sic) yet look
look on themselves in Service can only last
