Poor. Vinegar smell. The paper is separated into two separate sections due to a tear at a fold in the paper. The paper itself is in okay condition with some tattered edges, browning of the paper, and some unobtrusive folds and stains.

Description:
This letter, dated February 24, 1781, is written by Zebulon Butler, a lieutenant colonel during the American Revolutionary War, to Captains John Paul Schott and Anthony Selin. In the letter, Butler writes that he has been given an order by George Washington for the men to march their companies to meet his forces. He mentions that the troops are not to disturb any of the inhabitants of the region, neither in body or property, and that there have been placed Quarter Masters of the commissary to produce necessary goods and provisions for the troops. These goods include carriages, liquor, and additional provisions.

orders for your further conduct.
you will be very carefull (sic) [careful] on your march to keep
your men in good order and Regulation you will
Se[e] (sic) that they do not Abuse the Inhabitants neither
in Person or Property. All Commissary Q[uarter] Masters
on your Rout[e] (sic) are Desined (sic) [designed] to Furnish you with
Provision Liquor Carriages &c [etcetera] wishing you A Good
