Title:
The Historical Record
Description:
A quarterly publication dedicated to the early history of Wilkes-Barre, PA. This publication discusses the history of Wyoming Valley and surrounding areas. This contains historical articles and ends with a series of obituaries. The first article is a biography on Father Thomas P. Hunt. Father Hunt was an author who resided in Kingston, Pennsylvania. He wrote an autobiography called “Life and Thoughts of Thomas P. Hunt: An Autobiography.” This record also contains an article on the newly opened Osterhout Library. The library received a large addition of books into their collection. One of the articles, titled “Families of the Wyoming Valley,'' explores the lives and deaths of prominent valley residents. One article included was about clergyman Reverend E. Hazard Snowden from Kingston. Reverend Snowden was influential in the local Prespyterian church and conducted many charities in the area such as the tract society. There is also an obituary for Hon. Steuben Jenkins, who was a Representative for Luzerne and Lakawanna. The author also includes a description of Jenkins’ funeral that mourners from the Northeast Pennsylvania society attended.
