Title:

The Biography and Ancestry of Hon. George Henry Catlin with Notes on Genealogy.

Description:

A booklet containing biographical and ancestral information about George Catlin as well as advice on compiling genealogical family histories. This booklet begins with the ancestral history of George Henry Catlin. This George Henry Catlin is a relative of the famous artist George Catlin, who was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa in 1796. His family originated from Kent, England and moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1644 or 1645. His first relative in America was Thomas Catlin. George Henry Catlin was born August 26, 1845 in Shoreham, Vermont. Catlin did well in school and pursued going to Law school. He lived and worked in New York City for the beginning of his career. After he married Mary Wodrow Archbald, they moved their family to Scranton. In Scranton Catlin continued his work as a lawyer but he also got involved in local banking. He was the vice president of the Third National Bank in Scranton. Catlin was still alive when this booklet was published, and it discusses the monuments dedicated to him. Following Catlins brief biography, Weyburn includes a genealogy of the Catlin family. It begins with Thomas Catlin and ends with the descendant George Henry Catlin. The next section is “Genealogy or Aids in Writing a Family History” which was also written by Weyburn. Here he gives advice on how to conduct family history projects.
