Title:
Guide to Depositories of Manuscript Collections in Pennsylvania
Description:
This booklet presents collections in various archives.A list of holdings of various archives and their locations throughout Pennsylvania. Roy F. Nichols wrote forward for this work, in which he wrote how he hopes it will help future researchers. Nichols was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and wrote many books on the history of United States politics. The preface was written by Karl Goedecke. He was the State Director of the Historical Records Survey. The preface states the reason why the Pa Historical Commission wanted this work made. This booklet was created to aid researchers in finding material that they needed. In the early 20th century the libraries, museums, and historical societies all had different organizational systems at their institutions. Historians felt like the different systems impacted their abilities to effectively research their work. This booklet lists the institutions throughout the state and then the “holdings” which is a brief description of the archives they had.
