Title:

American Wildflowers.

Description:

A short book with illustrations and descriptions of common American Wildflowers. The first section of this book is text and drawings by Emma C. Embury from her book “American Wild Flowers in Their Native Haunts”. This book was published in 1845, this book edited some of Embury’s original work and republished it 100 years later. Emma C. Embury was a 19th century author, who was well known for her children’s books. The illustrations from this work are done by Edwin Winfield, a popular illustrator who drew American scenery. The second section of this book is titled “American Wild Flowers”. While the first section included information about the flowers and illustrations to go along with it this section included writings and poems on them. They include lines of poems from British poet Walt Whitman, and American poet Emily Dickinson. There is also a short Native American poem on how wildflowers began to grow, but a name is not mentioned.
