Title:

Tioga Point Museum Bulletin Vol. VIII, No. 1.

Description:

A bulletin for the Tioga Point Museum in Athens, PA. The first part of this booklet is “The Museum as a Community Asset”. This explains how the Tioga Point Museum helps the community and how it was running low on funds to pay extra workers. It discusses the position of an assistant curator they were looking for. The second section is “Qualifications of a Curator” which goes more in depth on the job description. Job duties included cataloging, labeling, demothing, and waxing floors. The final section is “Museum Gifts and Activities” which is a list and description of donations the museum received around the publication of this booklet. One donation was two letters written in the early 19th century by Marquis de Lafayette. Lafayette was a French revolutionary who fought in the American Revolution in support of the U.S. He was an active member of the French Revolution and held political positions in the National Guard. Lafayette is considered a hero in both France and the United States. These letters were donated to the museum by Howard Bishop, an executive manager of Robert Packer Hospital in Sayer, Pa. They were translated by Prof. George Holbrooke. They are about Lafayette leaving France to tour the United States. Renovations to the Azilum historic site are mentioned. An article titled “ The North Pennsylvanian French” by Elsie Murray, who at this time was the museum director, is recommended. A booklet from 1947 is included in this collection. It includes a survey of Azilum, Pa made in 1794. There are also portraits of the founders of the village and photographs of relics from the 18th century.
