Title:
Tioga Point Museum Bulletin Vol. IX, No.1 and No. 2.
Description:
No.1: This bulletin is written in memoriam to two members of the museum society who passed away. The first member that is discussed is Mary Hunsiker, who was from Athens, Pa. She donated relics from her trips to Scandinavia, Holland, North Africa, Madeira, and other countries. Hunsiker also donated items from her brother Millard Hunsiker, who worked with Herbert Hoover post-World War 1. The second member is George N. Tibb who was a New York local. Tibb donated books on topics ranging from the American Revolution to the personal bibles of French aristocratic ladies. Finally they list recent donations to the Tioga Point Museum.
No.2: A bulletin for the Tioga Point Museum in Athens, PA. This booklet focuses on the burial plot of the Franklin and Flower family. “The Franklin-Flower Burial Plot in East Athens” is about the upkeep of the plot and who was buried there. It was originally the burial place of Colonel John Franklin. Colonel Franklin fought for Connecticut in the Yankee-Pennamite wars and fought in the battle of Wyoming. Col. Franklin fought with Colonel Hartley. He was later imprisoned in Philadelphia, which was encouraged by Ben Franklin. Over time other members of the Franklin-Flower were buried there. While it is regarded as a historic site in 1953 the plot was neglected and was overgrown with plants. The bulletin was written in response to finding it in this condition. Final new history books are listed in the last section of this booklet.
