Guide to The Published Archives of Pennsylvania

Description:

A description of an archive, its individual items, and all of its collections.The booklet includes a summary, finding aids, and a descriptor of when items were acquired. It begins with an index that lists historical subjects and different locations where information could be found. Then they included a history of the archives in Pa. One of the first archivists of the state Samuel Hazard’s work in the late 1700s to the mid 1800s. He worked with colonial Pennsylvania documents, and the author of this booklet says that Hazard was the best editor of the Pennsylvania Archives which he started. The next biography that was included was of Dr. William Henry Egle. Dr. Egle was the state librarian from 1887 to 1889. He published history books and worked in the Pennsylvania archives until his death in 1901. After his death Dr. George Edward Reed took over. He published more series of the Pennsylvania Archives. It goes into detail about the continuation of the Pennsylvania Archives throughout the 1920 and 30s.
