Description:

A photocopy of a news article detailing the predictions for the future of American industry. This article discusses the author Isaac A. Chapman, who is credited by this paper of writing of the first history of Wilkes-Barre.He was also an inventor, businessman, and publisher of the newspaper “The Gleaner”. This work is “A Sketch of the History of Wyoming Valley ''. This newspaper article draws comparisons between Chapman’s thoughts on the War of 1812 to the Spanish American War. In Chapman’s address he wishes for the time that the United States is able to make their own weapons, without relying on other countries. The author of this article says that Chapman’s dreams for the future of the country have come true. While they are both glad that the United States made advances in both industry and foreign affairs, both authors worry about the amount of weapons available.
