Title:

Toby’s Eddy.//Toby’s Cave.

Description:

Toby’s Eddy is a famous area that is located close to Kingston, at the mouth of Toby’s Creek. The engraving exhibits the beautiful scenery as it sits between Ross Hill and the river. This scenic retreat displays secluded spots. It’s said that students of the seminary would play, picnic, bathe, and walk around this area. There has been much growth in the infrastructure of the land, leading to the demise of this landscape. Located west of Toby Eddy, Toby’s Cave is small and quaint, and was often used as a retreat for “Toby the Indian.” It is said that he haunts the creekside. Some of the locals say this cave once extended three fourths of a mile to the other side of Ross Hill. There is much old gossip claiming there have been many supernatural sightings in this cave.

The images are from the title, Wyoming: Its History, Stirring Incidents, and Romantic Adventures by George Peck. In the preface of the work, Peck notes that Miranda Myers created the two illustrations of Toby’s Eddy and Cave.

Toby’s Creek, near Kingston, Pennsylvania
