Description:
An etching of a dock with a walled city or a fort. There is a ship in the harbor as well as people bustling about. This print was created by François Antoine Maxime Lalanne.
Concarneau is a commune in the Finistere department of Brittany located in Northwestern France. Bordered to the west by Bai de La Forêt, it used to be the center for shipbuilding dating back to the 14th century.
François Antoine Maxime Lalanne was an artist born in Bordeaux on November 27, 1827. His parents were Anne and Antoine Lalanne. Studying classical and traditional art at the l'institution Oré, he learned drawing under Saulnier. In 1848, he received a Bachelor of Letters degree. Despite being skillful in the arts, he did not pursue it as a career, taking up law instead. He died on July 29, 1886.
