Description:
This is a wood engraving of a woman sitting in nature watching two swans and was printed on wax paper. This print was illustrated by Frederick Stuart Church and engraved by E. Heinemann. More information on this piece can be found on the ArtMia website. Frederick Stuart Church was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1842. He was an illustrator best known for his depiction of animals. At a young age he was employed at the American Express Company in Chicago with intentions of a business career. At the age of nineteen he served in the Civil War for the Union Army. After being discharged he devoted his life to art and began studying under Walter Shirlaw at the Academy of Design. He died in 1924.
