Delaware Water Gap

Description:

Two people overlook the river with some distant structures and foliage. This piece was engraved by John Filmer and illustrated by Granville Perkins. The Delaware Water Gap is located on the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania where the Delaware River cuts through the Appalachian Mountains. The Gap is made up of the southern part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area that is now used for boating, fishing, hiking, and rock climbing. Granville Perkins, an American illustrator and painter, was best known for his landscapes and marine subjects. In the 1870s and 1880s, he contributed many of his works to journals and books. Other mediums he took part in were oils and watercolors. He would go on to exhibit his work at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the National Academy of Design.
