Title:
View of Wyomissing from West Bank
Description:
This is a photograph of a painting depicting a view from Wyomissing.
Wyomissing is located in Berks County, near Reading, Pennsylvania. This place was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The name of Wyomissing comes from the Delaware language meaning “peaceful/longfish/pike.” In 1685, much of the County was transferred from the Native Americans to William Penn. One of the earliest industries in the area was the Evans Grist Mill. This building still stands at the corner of Old Mill Road and Old Wyomissing Road. This piece was created by Eugene C. Frank.
Eugene C. Frank was born in Germany in 1844 and was a marine and landscape painter. Immigrating to New York 1861 he was employed as an engraver for the Heliographic Engraving Company. He studied painting in New York under A. C. Howland in 1874. He died in 1914.
