Description:
A London newspaper advertising the prints of William Hogarth, who was a satirical caricaturist. This document is listed as being part 29 of the collection, and the front page makes note that each part contains four engravings of Hogarth’s work. The second and third page has a description: John Wilkes, ESQ. Drawn from the Life, and Etched in Aquaforts by William Hogarth, published according to Act of Parliament, May 16, 1763. Hogarth, throughout his career, made a very unflattering portrait of Wilkes, depicting him as mentally disabled and demonic. The fourth page: The Man of Taste” and an explanation of the plate. Last page: “Companion work to Kitto’s “Sunday Book.” Now publishing in fortnightly parts at 1s, and monthly parts at 2s Charles’ Knights’s Pictorial Museum of Animated Nature; And Companion for the Zoological Gardens. Illustrated with Four Thousand Wood Engravings, Executed with Scientific Accuracy, Of all the important Quadrupeds, Birds, Fishes, Reptiles, and Insects which fill the earth.”
