The primary reason this article is within the collection is due to three articles. The first is entitled “THE LAST MONOPOLY” which focuses on the negotiations regarding coal companies. The Lehigh and Wilkesbarre Coal Companies are mentioned, as well as Charles Parrish (local historical figure). The second article, entitled “LARGE FIRE IN WILKESBARRE, Pa.” The article describes how, on January 2nd, a coal-oil lamp exploded in the basement of Franenthal’s Opera House, causing a large fire which caused a total of $88k in damages (approx $2.3 million today). The final article, entitled “LOCAL MISCELLANY '' reports on the “Great Coal Corporation '' - a continuation of the first article, explained how the Honeybrooke, Wilkesbarre, and Lehigh Coal Companies are combining.
