Description:
The following item depicts a letter dated February 17, 1826, written by John Hollenback to Chester Butler. In the letter, Hollenback is writing to Butler regarding certificates that Butler requires for lands held in Kingston. He appears to have asked Hollenbach for them in a previous letter, for Hollenback writes that he does not have any of the certificates Butler is asking for. He mentions that he will look further into the matter and, upon finding anything, he will invite Butler over to see them the next time he is in Wilkes Barre. He also notes that Butler has asked him if Polly Pierce or Clarissa have any rights to the lands in question, to which Hollenback states he has none. Hollenback finishes the letter by stating that he will try to be of any assistance he can in the matters, though he does not feel like he can be of much help.

Dear Sir In response to your Letter of the 16th of Dec[ember]. I have to Say that after a thorough examination I find that I have none of the Certificates Relative to the Lands in question now in my Possession — They were left in Philad[elphi]a and I expect to Receive them in the Spring and will on my way through Wilkesbarre (sic) [Wilkes Barre] afford you an oportunity (sic) [opportunity] to examine any that you may think important in the Cause you have undertaken. — With regard to the enquiries concerning the Rights of Clarissa + Polly Pieice to any of the Lands in Kingston it is utterly out of my power to afford you any information other than that you may obtain from the Certificates attended to Grant/give(?) I would be perfectly safe in saying that no Person about Wilkesbarre having acquaintance with the Family could know less on these subjects than myself. Every information that can be obtained from Certificates &c [etcetera] when they come into my hands shall be at your Service. I am
