Fair. The paper has a yellow discoloration and a small hole where the letter was sealed.

Description:

The following item depicts a letter from John Todd, to his nephew, Andrew McClintock, dated April 12, 1829. In the letter, Todd writes that Andrew’s mother is very happy to hear of a business connection between him and Mr. Shannon. Todd goes on to describe the wellbeing of Andrew’s mother, and requests and notes that she desires to visit him soon. He writes that she wants to work within a garden and sends his recommendations for growing vegetables and how to situate the plants. The back of the manuscript notes that John Todd holds the position of Postmaster. The back of the manuscript also notes that Andrew Todd McClintock is receiving letters from Mr. Shannon’s Store, near Trappe, Pennsylvania. Dear Nephew, Trap(pe) 12 April 1829 Your mother received your letter this day and was much pleased to learn that you had made a new engagement with Mr. Shannon, she wishes James to have some garden made early as the expects to be up about the first week in May if you think it necessary to have a couple of loads of manure for the gardens you will please to get it. the small onions will be found in a box in the cellar. you will please to be particular to have plenty of early Potatoes planted - and let the upper part of the garden to some suitable person to plant with potatoes to the shares- your mother is in excellent health as well as the rest of us generally we all join with your mother in sending our love to you and James - your affectionate uncle John Todd Mr Andrew T McClintock
