Description:
The following item depicts a receipt written by Arthur Reader to Gilbert Stuart McClintock, dated July 15, 1926. In this receipt, Reader writes the various purchases made by McClintock, including a number of rare, original prints. The prints listed are as follows:
“The Hard Bargain,” a mezzotint print, which is a monochrome printmaking process of the intaglio family. The piece is created by William Ward, an English engraver, after an original painting by George Morland, an English painter. The print was written to be published in 1803.
“The Fleecy Charge,” by George Shepeard after Geroge Morland. The print was published in 1796, and in color. The manuscript by Reader states the wrong name, or possibly a reproduction of this print by Knight, as the majority of these prints held by other institutions name Shepheard as the creator.
“The Stag Hunting,” by Richard Wilson Reeve after an original by Dean Wolstenholme. This item states that the print is a series of four sporting aquatints, published in 1808. This item is written by Reader to be very scarce.
“The Stag Hunt,” an aquatint, which is an intaglio printmaking technique, a variant of etching that produces areas of tone rather than lines. The piece is by Robert Havell, published in 1825.
“The North American Bear Hunt,” an aquatint by Matthew Dubourg after Samuel Howitt. This print was published in 1813.
“Taking the Stag,” a sporting Aquatint, by John Harris III, after Henry Thomas Alken, published in 1850.
“Motion,” a sporting aquatint by Henry Thomas Alken, published in 1832.
“Henley, (Park Place),” an aquatint by Robert Harvell, after William Havell, published in 1815.
“Lion House,” an aquatint by Robert Havell, after Edmund Havell, published in 1815.
