Description:

The following item depicts a receipt dated September 3, 1926, created by Maruice Cugny for the American Consular General to Gilbert Stuart McClintock. The printed receipt is in french, and depicts McClintock’s purchase of 4 items inducing 2 alabaster statues of Louis the 14th, 1 bas-relief, which is an ornamental sculpture, and 1 painted canvas. There is an additional note at the bottom of the page that states the items have been assessed and declared to have more than 100 years of age. The page is signed by the Vice-Consul of the United States at Paris, France. The understanding of bas-relief models are considered in viewing them, “to look at a penny, nickel, or other coin and examine the raised images on it; they're all bas-reliefs. English speakers adopted bas-relief from French (where bas means "low" and relief means "raised work") during the mid-1600s” (Merriam Webster Dictionary).
