Description:

The following item depicts a printed receipt by Heimische, Kunst, and Hausindustrie to Gilbert Stuart McClintock, dated July 23, 1927. The receipt is printed in German and contains 12 purchases of art pieces coming to a total of 1,044 pounds. It is plausible that “Bauer,” stands for Alexander Georg Rudolf Bauer, a german born painter who became recognized for his connection with the avant-garde group Der Sturm in Berlin. His work would later become central to the non-objective art collection, or abstract movement, of Solomon R. Guggenheim One of the items appears to be an engraving titled Flight into Egypt, which may be alluding to the engraving by Martin Schongauer, a 15th century German engraver, entitled Flight into Egypt.
