Description:
The photograph depicts a horse and buggy carriage stationed on the street before a brick home in the background of the frame. The one horse has a white mane, with a white accent strip down the snout. The second horse has a darker mane with the same coloring on the face. The buggy is a black body with a dark, cloth covering for the roof. There is a coachman in the front with a rein aid and crop. He is dressed in dark clothing that appears thick, indicating a colder season possibly.
The date of the photograph has been ascertained from the inscription written by Gilbert Stuart McClintock, which states that the house depicted in the River Street home. This home was built in 1841, indicating that the original photograph must have been taken after this date. The author as Gilbert Stuart has been ascertained by a handwriting comparison with items that include an initial signature, such as (1.57 and 1.60).
