Description:
The following item depicts a group of individuals sitting outside the McClintock family home on 44 South River Street. Andrew Todd McClintock can be seen in the foreground of the right-hand side of the image. He is stood at the base of the stairs in a black suit, with a cravat and white button down shirt. A woman, possibly Augusta McClintock, is standing at the top of the stairs in a black dress. The rest of the party are in various black and white attires, women in dresses and men in shirts and slacks. Some are sitting on the porch, others in the windows on the left hand side of the photograph. One woman stands in the left hand side yard of the home. On the railing, central in the photograph, we can see a young boy laying across the iron beam. It is possibly Gilbert Stuart or Andrew Todd, the sons of Andrew Hamilton McClintock, son of Andrew Todd pictured.
The date of the photograph has been estimated according to Andrew Todd McClintock’s life dates. Andrew Todd McClintock was born in 1810, in Northumberland county to Hannah Todd McClintock and Samuel McClintock. He studied at Kenyon College in Ohio, later being admitted to the bar in Luzerne County in 1839, where he built a prominent professional career in the valley during his life. He also pursued many professional connections, rising to a director role for the Wyoming National Bank and a presidential seat on the Hollenback Cemetery Association. Princeton college conferred a degree of LL. D. in 1870 to McClintock. At the time of his death in 1892, McClintock was of the oldest members in the Luzerne Bar, where he continued to maintain the interests of many corporate entities until the time of his passing.
