Description:
The following item depicts a pencil sketch portrait of Andrew Hamilton McClintock, by an unknown artist, plausibly created during the late nineteenth-early twentieth century. The piece is composed of graphite pencil, utilizing contrast on the page with an eraser. McClintock is depicted in a suit, white button down shirt, and bow tie. His hair and beard have touches of age, possibly placing him in his late forties to mid fifties.
Andrew Hamilton McClintock was born on December 12, 1852 to Andrew Todd McClintock and Augusta Bordley Cist McClintock. He played a hand in many provincial roles in the valley, such as a director position of the Miner’s Saving Bank of Wilkes-Barre, as well as a librarian and treasurer dual role at the Osterhout Free Library. After graduating from the College of New Jersey, Princton, Hamilton began studying law under his father and J. V. Darling. In 1876, Hamilton was admitted to the Luzerne Bar.
