Description:

A set of various literature reviews from The Library Quarterly in two pages. The reviews discuss The Library of Congress. The first literature review is by Felix Reichman from Cornell University Library. The review is continued on to page 59 from a prior page not included. This review has a red line drawn through it. The sections on this page discuss different library systems, the medieval system, German systems, American systems, and a potential universal system. Reichman ends by warning scholars to not be quick to judge contributions of German librarians given the years of the Nazi regime that impacted this just a few years before the review was written. The second review that begins on page 59 is by Julian P. Boyd of Princeton University. He is reviewing The Story Up to Now: The Library of Congress 1800-1946 by David C. Mearns and includes the citation at the beginning of the review. The review continues from page 59-61. Boyd emphasizes the necessity of the Library of Congress and finds that Mearns’ book should be a required reading to all historians, librarians, and members of Congress. He talks about the fact that representatives should respect and think about the Library of Congress’ role in America. The final review that begins on 61 and ends on 62 is by Carleton B. Joeckel from the School of Librarianship University of California on the Annual Report of the Librarian of Congress for the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 1947, which is cited at the beginning of the review. This review also has a red line drawn through it. The review talks about aspects of the report and mentions The Story Up to Now. It also talks about the organization of the report.
