Description:
The item is an edition of Princeton University’s The Record, a booklet from their art museum that includes articles, images of art, and recent acquisitions. This edition is Volume XVII, number 1, published in June of 1958. The booklet is 43 pages long. The first article is on a painting Garland of Flowers with the Portrait of Peter Paul Reubens by the artist Daniel Seghers that was acquired by the museum. The article talks about some of Seghers work, other work related to his, and some information on Peter Paul Reubens. This article is written by John Rupert Martin and also includes an appendix written by J.R.M. about the legitimacy of the painting being from Daniel Seghers. The next article is on bowls from Popilus and Lapius written by F.F.J. There is a chart included about motifs used on pottery by Popilus and Lapius. There is also a catalog including the pottery mentioned within this article, both at the Princeton museum and in other museums. Page 41-43 includes a list of recent items acquired by the museum in 1957. The list is broken down into categories: painting, sculpture, pottery, metal, prints, drawings, and miscellaneous. The back of the booklet includes information about the museum, The Record publication, the organization “The Friends of the Museum,” and a list of staff.
